I would take Ilya Bryzgalov, Devan Dubnyk, Curtis Joseph and Khabibulin over Smith for my best coyote goalie.

Bryzgalov had 3 seasons with a save percentage over .920 and Smith has 1 as a coyote. which makes you wrong imo.

Some interesting notes:

Duclair and DeAngelo, two AHL Exiles, both have positive relative Corsi.

if it's so interesting why did I almost fall asleep while trying to copy and paste it?

I think it's about longevity with the specific team. No one tops Smith as he took the team to it's one conference final and has been the goalie for like 200 years.

The Leafs are struggling and looking more and more like a Randy Carlyle led team. You think they'll still make the playoffs?

For sure. They will catch Ottawa and probably also Montreal before all this is over.

I don't think so...not letting 40 shots a night on goal.

I hope so though....and you could be right with the fresh injuries Ottawa just had.

Rangers defeinitely dumped Duclair at the peak of his value. Yotes kind of got hosed if they were thinking they were acquiring a future 1st liner in Duclair.

Did you miss Duclair's 20 goal season last year? Are you saying he's never going to duplicate or improve and that he peaked at 19?

1) It's "Teppo" not "Tempo"...pretty sore subject among coyotes fans.

2) while I love your use of analytics, it continues to drive me bonkers that you hardly ever place context around the analytics. Almost all of your Corsica stars listed are highly sheltered players with the exception of domi and (maybe) Deangelo.

3) glad to see you coming around on hanzal being worth keeping.

4) you and I debated all summer that duclair was a 3rd line winger (a good one for sure) and not a top line scoring threat. Ready to concede, or holding on to the narrative that he just needs his touch back before he suddenly is a top scorer in the NHL?

5) not a chance that yandle replaces teppo...it's not even close. And OEL might someday take his spot as top Coyotes defenseman, but as it sits today Teppo remains number 1.

Duclair only had 4 goals in his last 26 games last year

so, when you add that to the 4 goals in 53 combined NHL/AHL games he has had this year

that's 8 goals in his last 79 games.

good corsi though

you're a absolute moron. The only reason Ottawa would be overtaken by Toronto is the insane amount of injuries we had in the last two days. You keep saying Ottawa got lucky all season long... imo your just another leafs fan hatting the Sens for no real reason! Yotes will make the playoff and Ottawa will be a bottom feeder this year!!! Sounds familiar Tanner ?

I'd replace OEL with Pronger and Doan in way of Datsyuk.

Cloak of Elvenkind was okay but theres at least 7 Better Lord of the Rings themed songs by Led Zeppelin alone. Now I know youre an Alternative Hipster but dont even try and say Marcy Playground > Led Zep. That would be the most ridiculous thing you've ever said...and that says an awful lot.

I wasn't really kidding when I talked about those injuries not mattering too much to Ottawa. Their coach could probably keep the best 18 players to a one goal lead if he had a group of full sized random adults and a half-way decent goalie.

The Leafs are going through a rough-patch after killing it for nearly two months. They play a style of game that is going to be volatile and streaky because you can't always score in the NHL, even when you play good.

Their D is terrible, (TEAM Defense, not just the six guys who play D) but they are basically the most dangerous offensive team in hockey, give or take one or two contenders, so they're gonna make it.

This doesn't even make sense. Duclair scored 20 goals/ 44 points last year, was one of his teams best players, a positive corsi, a driver of possession, and a spark plug/ grinder.

Sure, his crazy shooting percentage contributed to his totals, but he had a better season than Max Domi, who is a high end draft pick who can't play defense against an NHL player, who no one says 'won't be a first liner.'

For his age, history of NHL success, and blazing speed, Duclair is about as 'blue chip' as you can get. Considering his rookie season was, at worst, an average first line winger, I would say his ceiling is 30 goal, all-star, first liner.

It's possible he doesn't live up to that, but what you're saying is a little harsh.

1) It's Tempo. You don't get to be named Teppo and not get called Tempo. Tempo is the coolest name a guy can have.
#berensteinuniverse

2) The coaches job is to deploy players so that they are successful. If a player is sheltered and still successful, guess what: The coach found a way to use him so he's contributing.

12 minutes of 55% hockey from a sheltered Dman counts the exact same as it does if he is just good enough to dominate in any situation - something that is so rare it's a wonder we talk so much about 'sheltering.'

3) I wrote about that a long time ago - basically I argued that Hanzal is a pretty solid player the further you move him down in the lineup, and that the Coyotes need to surround their good players with guys like Toronto did with Kadri/Gardiner/JVR.

4) No.

I refuse to write a player off who's 20 years old and already had the kind of success he has.

Maybe this disagreement comes from you thinking that a first liner is a 40 or 50 goal scorer. And us defining that differently.

My way of thinking is that a line needs to have a play maker, a scorer, a grinder and a defensive conscious. If they have multiple players hitting multiple boxes and they also are good with possession, they end being a "first line"

Duclair is a grinder with speed and a scoring touch. That's incredibly rare in the NHL. Even if he doesn't hit Brad Marchand levels, that is a player every first line needs.

5) You're probably right. You'd know better than me.

Not at all. The Senators are one of the worst teams in the NHL, also easily the most boring. They can't sustain the level of success they are having because it's mathematically impossible. These injuries will provide a convenient excuse for something that was always going to happen: Ottawa will miss the Playoffs.

Also, I never said the Coyotes would make the Playoffs this year.
